Fashion Friday: The Rainbow Fish Nails

Friday, October 5, 2012

These nails were super easy and fun to do! All you need is a base coat, two different colors of nail polish, a top coat, a pencil, and a straight pin!

First, slather your nails in a base coat. (This gives your nails a smooth finish so that the nail polish will stick and not have uneven bumps or anything like that). Then put 2-3 coats of the nail polish and let it dry completely!

After your nails have dried, put a glob of the other shade of nail polish on a piece of paper. Then, take the straight pin and stick it in the eraser of your pencil. Yay! now we have our own homemade dotting tool! Just lightly stick the straight pin in the glob of nail polish because we don't want there to be a huge uneven polka dot on our nails - that would defeat the purpose!

Voila! We're done! These nails reminded me of that story "The Rainbow Fish". Just because of the colors I used. The turquoise looks so ocean like and the way the silver dots shimmer when light hits them, makes me think of the little scales that he would give away. That was my favorite part about the book because they were so shiny! The colors I used: Base Coat- Essie All In One Base, All over color- Essie Turquoise & Caicos, Polka Dots- Essie No Place Like Chrome, Top Coat- American Apparel Nail Lacquer
