A Little Bistro-To-Go

Tuesday, October 9, 2012

Today I ate lunch at a delicious place in Gainesville called Tempo-Bistro-To-Go. All of the vegetables that they serve are all locally grown! And I think organic but i'm not too sure on that one.

I got the Caprese. It's a pressed sandwich that has Mozzarella, Kalamata Olives, Tomato, Basil, and a vinaigrette. MMM

I also got this soup that doesn't look that appetizing but believe me, it was! It has a coconut milk base and then 5 different spices and croutons. Tasted like Fall.

The back of the place had a garden! They were growing vegetables and herbs! Here is some Basil.

Tomato, or baby pumpkin? You be the judge.

And of course I couldn't go without a Pumpkin Spice Latte. It finally, sort of, felt like Fall today so I especially had to.

Apple Streusel Cinnamon Swirl Cupcakes!

Monday, October 8, 2012

I thought I would make these because they are very fall-ish and I am so ready for cold weather. These are kind of more muffin-y but still packed with flavor.

Ingredients:

Topping: 1/2 cup sugar
                                         2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Cupcakes: 1 cup grated & peeled apple
2 tablespoons cinnamon sugar (from above)
                                                      11/4 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
                3/4 cup sugar
                                  3/4 teaspoon baking soda
                    1/4 teaspoon salt
             2 large eggs
                  1 cup canola oil
                                 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
                                   3 tablespoon butter, melted

Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Make the swirl and topping. In a small bowl, stir the sugar and cinnamon together.

Make the cupcakes. In a small bowl, mix the grated apple and the 2 tablespoons of cinnamon sugar together; set aside. In a large bowl, stir the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt together. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the eggs, oil, and vanilla, stirring until the ingredients are smoothly blended. Stir in the reserved apple mixture, with any juice that has been released.

Spoon about 2 tablespoons of batter into each paper liner. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon sugar over the batter in each liner. Spoon the remaining batter over the cinnamon sugar, using about 2 tablespoons of batter for each cupcake. Use a pastry brush to dab the top of the batter with the melted butter. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon sugar over the top.

Bake just until the tops are light brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 25 minutes. Cool the cupcakes for 10 minutes in the pan on a wire rack.

These are perfect for Breakfast, coffee break, or tea time. Enjoy!

Im kind of obsessed with these iPhone cases! They are so cute! I can't decide which one i like the best!

Modcloth

This is pretty much the same bedding that I already have, except a lighter purple. I love lavender! my walls are lavender so this would probably blend in too much.

This is adorable. I love having fresh flowers in my room.

Fashion Friday: The Rainbow Fish Nails

Friday, October 5, 2012

These nails were super easy and fun to do! All you need is a base coat, two different colors of nail polish, a top coat, a pencil, and a straight pin!

First, slather your nails in a base coat. (This gives your nails a smooth finish so that the nail polish will stick and not have uneven bumps or anything like that). Then put 2-3 coats of the nail polish and let it dry completely!

After your nails have dried, put a glob of the other shade of nail polish on a piece of paper. Then, take the straight pin and stick it in the eraser of your pencil. Yay! now we have our own homemade dotting tool! Just lightly stick the straight pin in the glob of nail polish because we don't want there to be a huge uneven polka dot on our nails - that would defeat the purpose!

Voila! We're done! These nails reminded me of that story "The Rainbow Fish". Just because of the colors I used. The turquoise looks so ocean like and the way the silver dots shimmer when light hits them, makes me think of the little scales that he would give away. That was my favorite part about the book because they were so shiny! The colors I used: Base Coat- Essie All In One Base, All over color- Essie Turquoise & Caicos, Polka Dots- Essie No Place Like Chrome, Top Coat- American Apparel Nail Lacquer

Cadaver Lab

Thursday, October 4, 2012

Today I had the wonderful opportunity to be a part of a human cadaver dissection. I will admit that I was very hesitant about this because I know my mind likes to bring up nasty reminders of things when I am eating. But, I decided to go for it! I was the first one there waiting to get in the room. It was on a first come, first serve basis so I thought that I should be there really early because for some reason, in my crazy mind, I thought everyone would be lining up to go see this dead body. Not the case! I was the first one there for the longest time and then a few others showed up right when it was about to start. When we walked in, we had to put on our lab coats, goggles, gloves and those surgical mask things that doctors wear (I felt cool). I was looking around for the body but all I saw was this metal thing in the center of the room. It looked kind of like a operating table, so I was thinking "oh, I guess they will just wheel the body in or something". But then, the lab instructor opened it up and there, lying face down, was the body. It was a woman that I later found out was 81 and died of natural causes, but had a history of heart problems. The instructor told us to come up and not be so shy. So we all circled around the body. Its just so bizarre being right there by a lifeless human. It's like you're just waiting for them to move or do something but there they are, frozen in time. It actually seemed fake to me. But oh that smell was horrible. That was maybe the worst part actually. That formaldehyde was burning my eyes and burning my soul. Haha! Not really but it was making me sick. We peeled back the skin and Adipose tissues on the legs and back, and also separated some of the muscles but thats as far as we got today. The one thing that is bothering me, is that it looked like pumpkin seeds were coming out of the butt..I can't explain how that is even possible but I am not kidding. Also what bothers me, is knowing that this woman had a family and was more than just this empty vessel. If i knew someone was mangling say, my grandma's body, it would forever haunt me and make me sad. Anyways, I am glad I did it but I'm not sure if i will be going back because of course, at dinner time, the thought of what I saw today plagued me.

Im a dork. I promise I wont post anything so morbid EVER again.

Kristopherson, My Love.

Tuesday, October 2, 2012

Watch this video and bask in the glory of my son, Kristopherson! I love this baby kitty so so much! I remember the day I got him. I had been wanting a kitten for so long and I saw a picture on Facebook of a bunch of lil precious baby kitties. I just had to have one. So I picked the one I wanted (the most beautiful one) and brought him home with me. He was so sweet on the ride home! He sat on my lap and stared up at me until he fell asleep. He's loves to give kisses, open doors, and cuddle. I wouldn't trade him for the world.
